About me!

Hi! Nice to meet you!

I'm Pim Widdershoven and living in the small and quiet town Stevensweert (Limburg, The Netherlands), only a few meters from the Belgian border.

I've studied Network Infrastructure Design (NID in short) at Zuyd Hogeschool Heerlen (Limburg, The Netherlands). This 4-year study (HBO) was all about network infrastructure (Cisco CCNA/CCNP/CCDA/CCDP) and Microsoft lectures supplemented with lectures about Linux, scripting languages, ITIL, mathematics, etc. While at school I've started my own business called Piwi-Web. I hosted game servers, virtual machines using Xen technology, dedicated servers, websites and offered services like website and application development in PHP/HTML. After my study, I chose to work for an employer though, because there is so much more to learn when you can work in a team.

After my study, I've started my career at BlueTea as PHP Developer. At BlueTea, I've developed multiple applications using the Symfony 2 framework. One of these projects was HOTflo. After two years BlueTea I switched to HOTflo and worked for another two years as PHP Developer for the HOTflo project.

At this moment I fulfill the DevOps Engineer role at Performation HOTflo after HOTflo has been merged with Performation in 2018. In this role, I've set-up multiple Kubernetes Clusters using Terraform, Ansible and Rancher Kubernetes Engine (RKE in short). Kubernetes is just one of the business services I'm responsible for. We're also running GitLab for source control and continuous integration / continuous delivery (CI/CD in short) and a lot of other tools like Ansible AWX, Percona XtraDB Cluster, Rancher, Prometheus, Grafana, Elastic Stack, RabbitMQ, ...

Right now, my main focus is to improve the Kubernetes Cluster and to make it the preferred platform for all (new) applications. This isn't always easy, and I'm planning to start writing again about the challenges I come across, which will mostly be technical of course.
